Breaking The Silence

Sweet! I have 3 followers! That was a nice surprise this afternoon...thanks guys!

I know, I know... I've dropped off the face of blog earth. Here on regular earth I've been doing a lot of shifting and transforming. It's pretty normal for me to disappear altogether for the duration of my transition period. Blocking out external influences affords me the clarity I need to sort out the unwanted "old" and to grab a hold of whatever "new" I'd like. Without the solitary confinement, I end up with a motley of someone else's version of my hopes and dreams. It's an instinctual thing...

Anyway, here I am, a month or so later, with a sparkle in my eye and a bounce in my step. Sweet autumn is blowing in on the wind and I'm busy as a squirrel, preparing for the season, and stashing away ideas for the tricks up my sleeve.

My inspiration: reading all the Little House books again, renewing my love of bluegrass, Mary Jane Butters, and Carla Emery.

This weekend I've made Blackberry Cobbler (complete with latticework crust and homemade fresh whipped cream), Lentil Soup, and Pickled Tomatoes.

The garden is crawling up from the earth and taking over and I couldn't be happier about it.

We've got 2 pound heirloom tomatoes and loads of little yellow pear tomatoes that shine like jewels in the sun. The spaghetti squash contracted a bad case of powdery mildew but somehow, she's still going strong, sending out more runners and flowers ahead of the mildew. The soup beans are drying on the porch already and the melons are getting fat and juicy. I have nice meal planned for the kale with some sweet potatoes and ricotta, and the fordhook chard is finally overcoming its late start. I actually made beet cake a few weeks ago. Not half bad, really.

The whole yard got away from me this year. Overgrown and wild like an untamed place but it feels wonderful.

It's very nearly been a year since I got married in this very spot...

And it's even more beautiful there this year than it was last.

As for the tricks up my sleeve...

I'm not ready to reveal yet because things are still coming together in my mind but I will have another blog. Yes, in addition to this one. I'm not really sure what I'm doing with this one yet. Maybe I'll just put up my favorite photos or something. Time will tell.

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend everyone!
(all 3 of you)

I'll be around to visit blogs again someday soon.

; )
